Juan
Barco

Juan Barco is a colombian visual artist and muralist based in Toulouse/France. His practice moves between oil painting, muralism, and the exploration of the human figure as a vehicle to express emotion, spirituality, and contemporary experience.Trained in audiovisual media and fine arts, he has developed a personal visual language that combines the power of color with a free figuration that engages in dialogue with abstraction without losing its connection to reality. His work stems from the observation of human beings and nature to build images in which light, color, and painterly gesture become the main protagonists.Throughout his career, he has created murals and artistic projects in several countries. Among them is Libertad, a large-scale mural in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, inspired by a daily scene he found deeply symbolic: women moving through the city by bicycle with complete naturalness and autonomy. The work transforms this experience into a visual metaphor of freedom and of public space as a place of encounter, reflecting his interest in creating pieces that engage with community and the urban environment. His studio practice has evolved from portraiture and figurative work toward a deeper investigation of symbolism, the inner landscape, and the relationship between human beings and nature. Inspired by travel, cultural exchange, and painting as a tool for transformation, Juan Barco understands art as a space of freedom. Each work is the result of an intuitive process in which technique and experimentation interact to reveal new ways of seeing and feeling. His work is part of private collections and has been exhibited and shared internationally through contemporary art projects, consolidating a practice that bridges studio painting with large-scale interventions in public space.
